Hold The Line

Hold the line

This is a poem for all those engaged in conflict who are in growing realisation that they and their foes share a common fear of loss and control whilst around us all a greater loss is happening and which all life is under threat. I link it with walk the line the film of Jonny Cash and his ring of fire. The fire serpent story and some other links are at the bottom.

Hold the line boys I was told
As a new dream did unfold
My comrades near were a goodly folk
With clear eyes and so fairly spoke
We stood together side by side
And singing songs of old heros
A strength in us did rise

I saw them round me everyone family and friends,
Farmers, traders, travellers
pensioners and prisoners
Even simple blessed stars with all their fashion trends
We stood as one
as in our ears
a sound it did offend

And through the misty morning haze
a heavy horn did blow
And from its call an evil hoard
lost souls heads full of woe
Who had been grown by foolish foes
whos fear had led them wrong
And as we saw, our spirits shrank
for our will was slow yet strong

Yet hold on fast we did that day
we would not let fear claim us
And holding hands that great charge came
no history could blame us
And weakened by our firm resolve to see a better day
The foolish ones began to claim
they saw a desperate vision
A Strength in words was born anew there was no other way
They saw the truth a lamb a dove
and a peaceful mission
And wailing with a haunted look a memory of lost pride
They realised they could not win there was no earthly prize

We held on through our number great,
A sword in words was drawn
No blood was spilt though time was late
a heaven on earth was born
And on the blood spilt ground it lay
with power to hold men in its sway
And girls and boys they sang in joy
A lasting peace for all the world enjoy

A common man we are, and though, great challenges lie ahead
And great patience, is needed still, a future golden can be wed
From sharing all our fears and woes, we find our foes do melt away
And now to make a place for peace where animals and man do dwell
In peace respect and honesty and no more ancient trees are felled
And all those men who know the truth and realise their place
Can only live through children born to a dawn with smiling face
So life becomes a training ground for the building of a greener place
And death become accepted part of a journey to a common grace
Not forced or given recklessly but part of a shared deity.

Since then here are some updated links: I make no comments on the validity of all these mysteries and trails only that we control the future and no dates are set for the end of the world. This is a beginning not an end. You might find these adventures fun but don’t get too lost.

I like the music of Gorillaz and the images of the windmill island in the sky.
I like lots of music from the black eyed Peas, Ronan Keating and Snow patrol of course U2 are great and I also like some of George Michaels music. Best of all I think Simon & Garfunkels sound of silence is a great song with good words its worth a listen its good for these times.
